Now generally speaking I’m intolerant of piercings in the classroom. I’m an old fashioned kind of teacher who believes that the integrity of the school uniform should be respected at all times (well most of the time). But these girls have so many piercings these days. Their ears, their lips, their tongues. I made a point of telling the class that, although I wouldn’t ask for them to be removed, I really didn’t like them and didn’t want the girls to get any more. But then at the end of class, a strange thing happened.
